Equally important, we strongly recommend our customers measure and benchmark their marine drayage provider’s safety performance in driver turnover and miles driven per Department of Transportation chargeable accidents. Further clarification is expected to come in hours of service in 2013 and it is critical that industry feedback is considered to shape this discussion. On that note, we strongly support industrywide implementation of electronic onboard recorders to ensure compliance.

The drayage community will be called upon to manage this capital-intensive aspect of global commerce. Decisions must be made whether to purchase, lease or use pool arrangements. Efficiencies are expected as are further sustainability benefits. Having a close relationship with your drayage provider will become more important than ever.
