United Airlines, the North American launch customer of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has received its sixth 787-8 and initiated its first international route from Los Angeles to Tokyo.
The Los Angeles to Tokyo route will offer a daily flight, including a return flight, starting immediately. United Airlines will also implement service five days a week between Houston and Lagos, Nigeria, beginning in late January; as well as daily services between Lagos and Amsterdam, starting Feb. 24; Lagos and London, effective March 1; Los Angeles and Shanghai, as of March 30, and Denver and Tokyo, launching March 31.
The Dreamliner is the ideal aircraft for long-range routes with low demand, said Robbie Anderson, president of United Cargo. He also noted that 44 more firm-order 787-8s are scheduled for delivery. The 787 handles the same container types as the 777.
