China Shipping Container Lines is joining in a vessel-sharing agreement with United Arab Shipping Co. on the Middle Eastern carrier’s GEM1 Service, a new fixed-day weekly service connecting the Indian subcontinent, the Arabian Gulf, the Red Sea and Turkey.
CSCL will contribute one vessel to the string of eight ships, each with a capacity of 4,250 20-foot-equivalent units.
The GEM1 port rotation is as follows: Khor Fakkan, Sohar, Port Sultan Qaboos, Karachi, Hazira, Mundra,Khor Fakkan, Jebel Ali, Bahrain, Jubail, Khor Fakkan, Jeddah, Yanbu, Port Said East, Mersin, Izmit, Ambarli, Aliaga Izmir, Port Said East, Yanbu, Jeddah and back to Khor Fakkan.
UASC in a notice to customers said GEM1 offers “a fast, reliable and direct service into the Red Sea and eastern Mediterranean, with Black Sea connection via Ambarli.”
The service schedule includes two direct port calls in India such as Mundra and Hazira, where the first calls are scheduled for Dec. 8 and Dec. 20, respectively.
Current estimated transit times from India are: 16 days to Port Said, 25 days to Mersin, and 28 days to Izmit.
