DP World has ordered 69 cranes for a new 4 million 20-foot-equivalent unit capacity terminal at its flagship Jebel Ali container port in the United Arab Emirates.
The Dubai-based port operator is buying 19 ship-to-shore quay cranes and 50 rail-mounted gantry cranes from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries and Abu Dhabi’s Trans Gulf Port Cranes.
The new container terminal, which will be 1,860 meters ( 6,102 feet) long, with a depth of 17 meters [56 feet], will boost annual capacity at Jebel Ali to 19 million TEUs when it opens in 2014.
