Trimble, a $1.64 billion mobile technology company, acquired trucking software firm TMW Systems for $335 million in cash, the companies said Monday.
TMW Systems provides transportation management software for trucking operators and shippers. The company had $96 million in revenue over the past 12 months.
The transaction paves the way for greater integration of technologies linking motor carriers, their shipper customers, logistics partners and truck drivers on the road.
Safety regulations and economic necessity are driving more carriers to purchase and plug into everything from onboard recorders to optimization software.
Trimble, which also owns trucking communications firm PeopleNet, and TMW have already integrated many technologies. Combined, they serve more than 3,000 fleets.
Trimble acquired PeopleNet in 2011, and PeopleNet founder and CEO Ron Konezny was named general manager of Trimble’s Transportation and Logistics Division.
“The tight integration enabled by this transaction can offer a more comprehensive and seamless solution” to Trimble’s customers, Konezny said.
