Greek container ship owner Costamare has chartered two ships, including a newly acquired vessel, to ocean carrier Evergreen.
The Messini, a 1997-built ship with a capacity of 2,458 20-foot-equivalent units that was purchased for $6.8 million, has been chartered to the Taiwanese carrier for approximately 18 months at a daily rate of $8,100.
The NYSE-listed owner also chartered the 1992-built, 3,351-TEU Konstantina to Evergreen for one year at a daily rate of $7,550.
“We continue to execute on our strategy by taking advantage of attractive asset values,” said Gregory Zikos, chief financial officer of Athens-based Costamare.
“The purchase price for the Messini, which is close to its estimated scrap value, together with the time-charter arranged allow us to generate healthy returns and eliminate residual value risk,” he said.
Costamare controls a fleet of 58 ships with a total capacity of approximately 330,000 TEUs, including 10 vessels on order.
