Portus Services LLC has acquired St. Johns Shipping, a private stevedore and terminal operator in Port Everglades, Fla., for an undisclosed price.
Chris May, vice president of Portus, will oversee St. Johns’ integration into Portus. Gus Maldonado will retire as president of St. Johns but will continue to have an association with the company via his shipping agency at Port Everglades.
Portus, a private stevedore and terminal operator based in Jacksonville, Fla., is a Diversified Port Holdings company owned by SteelRiver Infrastructure Fund North America LP.
Portus, which employs workers from the operating engineers union in Jacksonville, has been involved in a dispute with the International Longshoremen’s Association over loading ammunition for the U.S. Marines in Charleston.
