APM Terminals, on a crane-buying spree, Tuesday ordered 31 ship-to-shore spreaders from Stockholm-based Bromma for cranes at its container terminal at Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam.
Bromma will supply nine Tandem spreaders for the first phase of the APM Terminals project, which makes the largest installation of Tandem units in the world. In addition, Bromma will supply 22 separating twin-lift STS45 crane spreaders for Phase 1.
Bromma said the Tandem spreaders boost the productivity of each lift cycle, because they are designed to simultaneously lift two 40-foot or 45-foot containers, or simultaneously lift two or four 20-foot containers. The twin-lift capability will increase the turnaround time for mega-ships.
