Target Corp. is ready to begin construction of a $103 million refrigerated distribution center in central Ohio that will employ up to 150 and give the retailer capacity to expand its food business.
The center, located about 20 miles west of Columbus in West Jefferson and part of the company’s move to add fresh foods to hundreds of Target stores nationwide, will handle produce as well as refrigerated, frozen and packaged foods.
Target will use the facility to stock fresh produce and other refrigerated and frozen food items in 350 stores in 10 states.
The discount retail chain has added fresh food and produce in more than 800 of its stores nationwide during the past three years. It plans to increase the number to 1,100 by the end of this year, or about 60 percent of all Target locations.
