Four small railroads and seven Class I carriers received $7.7 million in security grants from the Department of Homeland, a $6.8 million decrease from the year before.
Of the major railroads, CSX Transportation received the largest grant, $5.2 million, followed by Union Pacific, $88,878, and Norfolk Southern, $401,250.
Terminal operations of the Belt Railway of Chicago, Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad and the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis received a total of $493,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which administers all DHS grant programs. PPG industries, which operates a terminal railroad in Pittsburgh, received $1.2 million.
