UPS named Jim Barber, a 26-year veteran of the company, as its new president of the European region, which also encompasses the Middle East and Africa.
Barber, previously the region’s chief operations officer, succeeds retiring Wolfgang Flick. The 120-country and territory region has about 40,000 employees and a delivery fleet of about 8,800 vehicles.
“The Europe region represents roughly half of UPS’s international revenue so this is a critical assignment and one that’s very important to the future of UPS,” said UPS International President Dan Brutto.
In his most recent assignments, Barber was key in overseeing the integration of one of UPS’s largest recent acquisition, LYNX Express, and preparing for the 2012 London Olympics. UPS is the official logistics and express delivery provider for the London games, as it was for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
