Container traffic at Spain’s Port of Algeciras Bay grew 3.9 percent to 1.5 million 20-foot equivalent units in the first half of the year from the same period a year ago, largely due to a record June surge.
Container traffic at Spain’s largest port in June grew 46.6 percent to 332,484 units compared with the same period a year ago. The port’s overall tonnage increased 9 percent to 37 million tonnes within the same period.

Roll-on, roll-off traffic in the first half of the year grew 12.8 percent year-over-year to 120,505 units.
The number of container vessels calling the port in the first half of the year rose 34 percent to 1,418 from the same period a year ago. Overall vessel calls increased 3.5 percent to 13,504 ships within the same period.
The transshipment hub handled 2.8 million TEUs in 2010, down 7.6 percent from the year earlier.
