The six carrier members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association said they are reducing the size of their upcoming bunker increase on March 27 by $30 per 20-foot equivalent unit.
The CSA's March 27 increase in bunker surcharges will be $90 per TEU, $180 per 40-foot equivalent unit and $202.50 for equipment over 40 feet in length.
The March 27 increases come on top of the CSA's Feb. 27 increase in bunker surcharges.
The CSA members, Bernuth, CMA CGM, Crowley, Seaboard Marine, Seafreight Line and Zim Line, said they are reducing the size of the increase because they monitor fuel prices and adjust the increase if they are "not supported by actual circumstance."
The CSA asses its bunker surcharge in addition to all other charges, and applies it to all tariff and service contract rates between the United States and the Caribbean.
The March 27 increase applies to services in both directions between the U.S. and the Caribbean destinations of Anguilla, Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saba, St Barths, St Eustatius, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Maarten, St Vincent, Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname.
