The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation approved President Obama's nominees for appointments to the Surface Transportation Board and Federal Maritime Commission, sending them to the full Senate for ratification.
The committee voted Thursday to approve Ann D. Begeman to join the three-person STB that regulates disputes between railroads and their freight customers. Begeman would replace Charles D. Nottingham, who is stepping down as of March 18 at the agency that regulates disputes between railroads and their freight customers. She has been the Commerce panel's Republican staff director for most of the past two years.
For the five-person FMC, the committee approved the re-nomination of Commissioner Rebecca F. Dye to a third term, and Mario Cordero as a commissioner. Cordero is a member of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners.
