Online logistics software provider eModal added a chassis control functionality to its intermodal logistics community system. The product provides real-time commercial validation at points of chassis interchange.
The chassis control tool provides a layer of integration between the equipment providers and the terminal operating systems employed by terminal operators. As a driver checks in and before the chassis exits the terminal, the system ensures that the motor carrier is authorized to use the chassis.
Erik Ward, director of business development at eModal, said that as ocean carriers move away from providing chassis, validation at the gate is a necessity for the motor carrier chassis model to grow.
Using the eModal tool, chassis providers get necessary operational control, lines are further enabled to move away from providing chassis, terminal operators are able to better serve their customers and trucking companies and drivers avoid extra fees associated with unauthorized chassis usage, Ward said.
