The six members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association will hike their bunker surcharge on containerized cargo as of Feb. 27.
The CSA members said Monday they will increase their surcharges $60 on 20-foot equivalent units, $120 on 40-foot equivalent units, and $135 on containers more than 40-feet long.
The new bunker surcharges come hard on the heels of announcements by the CSA of a series of general rate increases through the year, starting Feb. 2.
The six carriers -- Bernuth, CMA CGM, Crowley, Seaboard Marine, Seafreight Line and Zim Integrated Shipping Services -- will apply the surcharge on all import and export cargo moving north and south between the U.S. and the following Caribbean destinations: Anguilla, Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saba, St. Barths, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent, Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname.
