APL Logistics is starting a service that trucks containers the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh to Vietnam’s Port of Cai Mep in Vietnam.
What APL Logistics calls its Cross-Border Trucking provides shippers a later cut-off time at a container freight station in Phnom Penh.
The service comes as Cai Mep is becoming an increasingly important gateway for growing trade through Vietnam.
Cross-Border Trucking targets the growing market of shippers who source manufactured goods in Cambodia, particularly in the retail, garments, and other fast-moving consumer goods segments. With the additional flexibility, shipments from Cambodia to U.S. destinations can still be delivered on time.
“Cross-Border Trucking is a service recovery solution designed for shippers when production runs unexpectedly late,” said Glenn Kong, managing director for APL Logistics in Cambodia. “Trucking from Phnom Penh to Cai Mep can also reduce transit times by as much as four days compared to feeder services from Sihanoukville port or barge services from the Phnom Penh river port to Cai Mep port.”
From Cai Mep, shippers can ship their products on any of the many global and feeder services that carriers have started in the last year to destinations in Asia, Europe and the U.S.
