Trucking company Old Dominion Freight Line is expanding an overseas partnership aimed at expediting less-than-containerload freight shipped to the U.S. from China.
The less-than-truckload carrier added seven Chinese ports to the three ports already covered by its Pacific Promise service.
The service expedites trans-Pacific LCL cargo. Goods shipped to Long Beach are transferred to ODFL's LTL truck and terminal network in the U.S.

Old Dominion works with several ocean carriers, the company said, selecting the best carriers for each port pairing.
“Pacific Promise is about velocity and predictability for our customers sourcing products in China," said Greg Plemmons, vice president of OD-Global.
Plemmons claims the service can shave 10 days from standard LCL transit times. "Our customers can place their products on domestic shelves sooner," he said.
ODFL started the service in April 2009, loading U.S.-bound LCL freight from the ports of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen/Yantian.
The service is now available from the ports of Dalian, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Ningbo, Qingdao, Xiamen and Xingang as well, said Thomasville, N.C.-based ODFL.
Goods are tracked from Chinese ports to their consignee's door in the U.S. A single rate per cubic meter is used to determine charges for all shipments.
"We were careful to create a rating and booking process that is very simple for the customer to use," said Plemmons. Shipments are tracked using ODFL pro numbers.
