French ocean carrier CMA CGM and APM Terminals, the Danish port operating company, traded stakes in container terminals in Dunkirk, France, and Mobile, Ala.
Terminal Link, CMA CGM's container terminal arm, acquired APM Terminals’ 61 percent holding in Nord France Terminal International, taking its stake in the terminal in the northern French port from 30 percent to 91 percent.
The remaining 9 percent is held by the Port Authority of Dunkirk.
At the same time, APM Terminals, a unit of Denmark's A.P. Moller-Maersk, has acquired Terminal Link's 20 percent interest in Mobile Container Terminal to take full control of the facility.
By The Numbers: Europe-North America Westbound Container Trade.
CMA CGM is the main customer of the Dunkirk terminal which handles four of the carrier's regular services: North Europe-French West Indies; French Asia Line; Panama Direct service and the Europe/Morocco service.
The Mobile terminal, which opened in November 2008, has an annual capacity of 350,000 20-foot units and will be developed in phases to be able to handle 800,000 TEUs.
The facility is operated and managed by APM Terminals.
