Five days after a 28-car derailment, CSX is prepared to reopen a rail line in Porter County, Ind., according to local news reports.
No one was hurt in an accident June 16 on Old Suman Road in Valparaiso, Ind., when a 60-car train derailed. A hazardous materials team found one container leaking a small amount of fluid.
Authorities closed the intersecting road a half mile in each direction from the railroad. During the clean-up, one death occurred when an unstable crane fell on a worker.
Railroad investigators have not determined the cause of the derailment. The company said it would use cameras attached to trains to examine the condition of the track and other operations to discover what happened.
