To handle recovering volumes in the trade between Asia, Mexico and the West Coast of South America, Germany’s Hamburg Sud and Chilean carrier CCNI plan to restore vessel capacity to the levels on the vessel-sharing agreement they operated jointly on the trade before the plunge in demand last year.
Starting in June the two carriers will once again deploy two separate vessel strings on their Asia Express VSA. In February of 2009 they folded the second loop of the service into a similar service operated by Mediterranean Shipping Co., which cut weekly capacity by 2,500 20-foot equivalent units.
String number 1 will deploy 11 vessels with nominal capacities of 4,200 TEUs each on the following port rotation: Yokohama, Pusan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Hong Kong, Manzanillo (Mexico), Lazaro Cardenas, Callao, Iquique, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso, Lirquen, Lazaro Cardenas and back to Yokohama.
String 2 will deploy 10 vessels averaging 2,700 TEUs of nominal capacity on the following port rotation: Keelung, Hong Kong, Shanghai, (Moji), Pusan, Manzanillo (Mexico), Buenaventura, Guayaquil, (Iquique), Port Angamos/Antofagasta, Valparaiso and back to Keelung.
