OOCL announced Friday that it will no longer provide chassis for transportation of both import and export containers to and from container yards or retail stores originating from or destined to facilities in or around the Boston, MA and Miami, FL metropolitan areas.
The carrier said all motor carriers, either working as suppliers for OOCL or OOCL customers, must provide chassis for these shipments as of May 1.
Maersk Line was the first carrier to stop providing chassis free of charge to its drayage companies. On Aug. 3 of last year it launched its Direct ChassisLink program in and around the Port of New York and New Jersey, under which it started charging truckers a chassis rental fee of $11 a day.
Maersk Line expanded the program to Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Rochester, Worcester, and Pittsburgh as of Feb. 1 and to the Middle West and the Ohio Valley as of March 1.
