Northeastern regional LTL carrier New England Motor Freight will reach deep into Canada through a partnership with Toronto-based Manitoulin Transport.
NEMF and Manitoulin are the latest example of regional LTLs to link up during the recession to broaden and strengthen their shipping networks. Last month southeastern regional LTL carrier Milan Express and northeastern carrier New Century Transportation partnered, building density in key traffic lanes.
Analysts and industry observers expect more partnerships to evolve as trucking shifts toward recovery.
NEMF's partnership with Manitoulin will allow for seamless cross-border operations, with direct service between points in the Northeast and Canada, said Ed Generous, NEMF's senior vice president of sales and marketing.
"Speed and consistency through our customer supply chain is critical today," he said. "We will improve our transit time and consistency of service with this partnership. Both members of the partnership will benefit from the complete integration of IT components to offer seamless connectivity and optimum service levels to our customers.”
NEMF, part of the Shevell Group, is based in Port Elizabeth, N.J.
