American Airlines Cargo Division announced expanded its Priority Parcel Service Heavyweight product for shipments between the United States and Europe.
The expanded service comes as reduced demand and a weak economy contributed to a $375 million loss in the first quarter for parent company AMR.
AA Cargo introduced PPS Heavyweight in November 2008, increasing the per piece weight limit from 32 to 45 kilograms (from 70 pounds to 100 pounds) for service within the United States including San Juan, Puerto Rico. Now customers can ship packages of as much as 100 pounds to ten cities in Europe.
“Providing customers with the broadest portfolio of shipping products, technology and customer service is our primary goal,” said Dave Brooks, president of AA Cargo. “The expansion of our PPS Heavyweight product, to include routes between the United States and Europe, underscores our commitment to customers throughout our network.”
The ten cities covered by the expansion are London; Paris; Barcelona and Madrid, Spain; Brussels, Belgium; Dublin, Ireland; Frankfurt, Germany; Manchester, England; Milan, Italy and Zurich, Switzerland.
