BNSF will postpone a scheduled extension of its fuel surcharges. Due to the volatile fuel market, the railroad said it will not extend the mileage-based fuel surcharge program.
An increase in the strike price on carload shipments from $1.25 to $2.50 per gallon of highway diesel fuel will not go into effect either. The changes were scheduled to take effect in Jan. and Feb.
BNSF had announced Aug. 5 an extension of its surcharges to carload (agricultural products, coal, industrial products and automotive) customers who do not currently pay a mileage-based fuel surcharge beginning Jan. 15 and to intermodal customers beginning Feb. 18.
The railroad said it will update its plans no later than July.
