Centrum Logistics, a Belgian logistics services subsidiary of Groep H. Essers transportation company, leased 211,000 square feet of distribution space from ProLogis in Romania, where Centrum plans to consolidate and expand operations up to 300,000 square feet once construction is complete.
Michael de Jong-Douglas, managing director for ProLogis in central and eastern Europe, said, "The Romanian industrial real estate market is characterized by strong demand for modern warehouse space, primarily driven by large, multinational companies establishing domestic and cross-border distribution centers in the Bucharest area, and a large supply of obsolete inventory."
Marc Paulissen, country manager for Centrum and Groep H. Essers, said, "This transaction reflects our sustained and strong growth in Romania." The new distribution center at ProLogis Park Bucharest A1 is located along the Bucharest-Presti highway, Romania's primary east-west road corridor, about 14 miles west of the East European nation's capitol.
ProLogis Park Bucharest A1 currently hosts two completed buildings totaling 570,000 square feet and two under development comprising 538,000 square feet. At build-out the park will include nine buildings totaling more than 3.12 million square feet.
