Paris-based SDV International Logistics has formed a joint venture with Dnata Cargo and Kanoo to create what the companies say they expect to become one of the largest logistics solutions providers in the United Arab Emirates.
The new company, SDV-UAE LLC, will be owned 49 percent by SDV and 51 percent by Kanoo and Dnata. The latter companies have worked together for years under Dubai Express-FreightWorks, through which SDV has worked in Dubai for the past 12 years.
"We have been looking at having a permanent presence in Dubai for a few years now," said Herbert de St. Simon, SDV's chief executive, Europe. "Dubai is growing very quickly and is a rapidly emerging market. It was one of the few strong cargo hubs around the world in which we did not have a presence."
Through SDV, SDV-UAE will have exclusive access to SDV's network of offices in 88 nations. The companies said the addition of Dubai to SDV's network also will put SDV in better position to take advantage of the largely untapped African market.
