Genesee & Wyoming said Tuesday that it has completed the acquisition of Rotterdam Rail Feeding for $21.4 million in cash, and as much as an additional $2.4 million over the next three years.
Headquartered in the Port of Rotterdam, RRF is an independent provider of short-haul rail and switching services. Its principal business is "last mile" rail services within the port for long-haul railroads and industrial customers.
The deal extends Greenwich, Conn.-based G&W's reach to the busiest container and bulk port in Europe. The company provides rail service at 16 ports in North America and Europe.
Genesee owns and operates 48 short line and regional freight railroads and provides switching services in the United States, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands and owns a minority interest in a railroad in Bolivia.
