Contract Freighters, Con-way's international truckload subsidiary, agreed to purchase 140 new engines. The move follows a promise made last month to provide new team drivers with new trucks.
The Cummins 2007 ISX engine with the Cummins Particulate Filter is approved by SmartWay, a voluntary partnership between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the freight industry.
"CFI joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership to ensure that we're part of a long-term solution toward reducing emissions and fuel consumption from trucking operations," said Herb Schmidt, president of CFI.
In October, CFI won its second consecutive EPA SmartWay Excellence Award based on its implementation of technologies and strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gases and other emissions from the transportation sector.
