Vice President Dick Cheney talked with barge company leaders on Thursday during a visit to New Orleans.
During his second post-Hurricane Katrina visit to the city, Cheney visited Canal Barge Company and watched one of its tugs working on the Mississippi River.
Cheney also met with the Army Corps of Engineers, which is tasked with rebuilding levees and other waterways infrastructure damaged by the hurricane.
"It looks like the levee system is back basically to pre-Katrina levels, in some cases, even better than that," Cheney said. "There's still a lot of work to be done, a number of studies still under way and more work to be done in the future. But I've been tremendously impressed with what we've seen here today."
