State-owned intermodal service provider, Container Corp. of India, has firmed up plans to run more scheduled double-stack container trains, particularly to northern inland destinations.
This follows its successful runs from Kanakpura near Jaipur to the west coast ports of Mundra and Pipavav.
Concor also proposes to divert all import cargoes in containers from the Port of Nhava Sheva to Mundra. The move will not only decongest Nehru, but help deliver goods to traders based in North India at a faster, competitive rate.
A fully-loaded double-stack train is capable of carrying 180 TEUs, instead of 90 TEUs at present in a single stack train, enabling the operator to double capacity of one train.
