Pittsburgh based Union Switch & Signal entered into an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad to implement its real time Optimizing Traffic Planner? and Next Generation Computer Aided Dispatch System throughout the railroad company's more than 33,000-mile North American network.
OTP is a software technology-based system for planning and optimizing the movement of rail traffic across a rail network.
"With the OTP system in place, Union Pacific will be in a position to greatly increase operational efficiency while reducing costs," said Ken Burk, president and CEO of Pittsburgh-based US&S.
The OTP application platform is designed to solve the problem of optimizing the movement of trains across a rail network in a way that satisfies a railroad's complex logistics and operating needs as well as its business objectives, US&S said.
