Short line operator OmniTRAX acquired its 15th rail operation with the purchase of CSX's Alabama Mineral Subdivision, a 120-mile section serving more than 40 customers in northeastern Alabama. The line will be renamed the Alabama & Tennessee River Railway.
The ATN, headquartered in Gadsden, Ala., interchanges with CSX at Birmingham and with Norfolk Southern at Alabama City. It also serves the Port of Guntersville on the Tennessee River.
Customers served on the line include National Cement, Progress Rail Services, Tyson Foods, SMI Steel, Georgia Pacific, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Cargill, Praxair, Regional Recycling and Bowater Lumber.
