Transportation company Arkansas Best Corp. on Thursday reported third-quarter net income of $27.4 million, up from $17 million last year.
Revenue was $461.9 million, up 12.6 percent from last year's $410.4 million as the Fort Smith, Ark.-based trucker hauled more tonnage during the period.
ABF Freight System Inc., the company's largest subsidiary, saw total revenue of $427.9 million during the period, up from $368 million. The company's Clipper business posted revenue of $24.6 million, down from $34 million in the year-ago period.
"Revenue increases in Clipper's brokerage and temperature-controlled divisions were offset by lower revenue in the intermodal portion of Clipper's dry freight business," said chairman, president and chief executive Robert A. Young in a statement.
