The National Industrial Transportation League said it supports APL's petition to be allowed to change tariff rates on publication.
APL filed a request with the Federal Maritime Commission last month to be exempted from Section 9(c) of the Controlled Carrier Act, which requires a 30-day waiting period before a state-owned carrier effects a tariff rate reduction.
The NIT League, in comments filed with the FMC on Tuesday, said APL should be granted the waiver because doing so would "increase service options for shippers and provide APL with increased flexibility to meet the needs of its customers when market conditions warrant a price reduction."
A waiver is appropriate, the League said, because it is consistent with waivers the FMC granted to three Chinese carriers in April.
The FMC announced this week it would consider the APL waiver during a meeting Oct. 27.
