NEWARK, N.J. -- Commonwealth Business Media announced today the appointment of Alan M. Field to the position of Associate Editor covering international trade for The Journal of Commerce. He will work out of the company's Newark office and report to Peter Tirschwell, editor-in-chief of The Journal of Commerce.

Field has more than 20 years of experience writing for and editing business publications, including news magazines like Business Week and Forbes, as well as business-to-business newsletters about international trade and technology management. He has also written numerous speeches, brochures, proposals and presentations on trade and economic development, including a speech for the 2003 Summit for Sustainable Economic Development and testimony given at subcommittee hearings of the U.S. House of Representatives. Field is a recipient of the National Magazine award, Overseas Press Club award, and Houston Press Club award (twice, in the U.S) for business news writing.
He holds a B.A. from Brandeis University, an M.A. from Columbia University School of International Affairs and the equivalent of an M.A. from the Institute of Advanced International Studies in Geneva. He is fluent in Japanese, French and Spanish and possesses working knowledge of German, Italian and Portuguese.
