Ports of Auckland Ltd., New Zealand's main seaport, will issue tenders later this month for the main contracts for deepening its commercial shipping lane.
The project, which will deepen Rangitoto Channel by about a meter, is estimated to cost as much as NZ$77 million ($45 million) if the port chooses to dredge the channel to a depth of 12.5 meters (41 feet).
Tenders will be issued in late August to five pre-qualified bidders. The contract will be awarded in January or February.
Ports of Auckland said the deepening of the shipping lane is required for larger container ships now calling at the port.
