The Port of Tacoma has chosen Tideworks Technology's Spinnaker Planning Management System software to manage its intermodal rail facilities.
The Port of Tacoma is the leading container port in the Pacific Northwest and the sixth-largest in North America. It moves over 300,000 containers a year.
The Spinnaker software is a Windows-based graphical planning system that will replace a legacy rail yard management system. Spinnaker is scheduled for deployment in the Port's South Intermodal Yard and North Intermodal Yard during the second quarter of 2003. It will be integrated with port and railroad automated equipment identification technology. The software will handle a number of container transactions, among them receiving and delivery of containers to inventory management, rail planning, yard planning and customized reporting.
Based in Seattle, Wash., Tideworks specializes in marine technologies for yard management and container and bulk freight.
