Lykes Lines has taken delivery of two new ships, the 3,200-TEU Lykes Flyer and the 4,050-TEU Lykes Deliverer.
The Lykes Deliverer has been deployed on Lykes' weekly Pacific Sprint service between Asia and the U.S. West Coast and Mexico.
The Lykes Flyer will begin operation in the Pacific before joining the Lykes Ranger, a sister ship delivered in June 2002, on the U.S. Gulf/East Coast of South America service at the end of this month. The ships are equipped with cranes and have relatively shallow drafts, both of which are attributes needed for the South American trade. Each of the new ships have slots for 400 refrigerated containers.
