China Southern Airlines opened a new cargo dropoff station at Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta. The station will allow China Southern to offer second-day freight service to China via Chicago. This new Atlanta dropoff station is in addition to China Southern's New York City cargo dropoff station at JFK International Airport.
In order to make the carrier's 747-400 freighter flights from Chicago to Shanghai and/or Shenzhen, every Wednesday, Friday or Sunday, shipments need to be dropped off before the 6 p.m. cutoff one day before the flight departure -- Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. The new Atlanta dropoff location is designed to serve freight forwarders moving China-bound cargo from the Carolinas, Florida and Georgia.
Ground handling will be managed by Alliance Airlines. All China-bound cargo will be trucked from Atlanta to Chicago for eastbound flights to Shanghai or Shenzhen.
