LONDON - Mersey Docks and Harbour Co., the operator of the Port of Liverpool, is investing $5.5 million in two new facilities at Sherness, its port in southeast England. Some 300 jobs will be created by the establishment of a pre-delivery inspection center for Peugeot-Citroen cars imported from France, Spain and Italy and a fruit-packing facility.
Sherness handled more than 400,000 vehicles and nearly 600,000 metric tons of fruit in 1999, according to latest available figures. - Bruce Barnard
