Robert V. Mendelsohn, chairman and chief executive of Royal & SunAlliance USA Inc., was named to the post of worldwide group chief executive. Royal & SunAlliance USA is a subsidiary of Royal & SunAlliance Group PLC, London.Mr. Mendelsohn, 51, is the first group chief executive from outside of the United Kingdom. He joined Royal Insurance USA in January 1994 as chief executive. Following the merger of Royal and SunAlliance in 1996, he became chairman and chief executive of all Royal & SunAlliance Insurance Cos. in the United States.
He is a graduate of Georgetown University, and earned a law degree from Harvard University.
Terry Broderick has been named president and chief operating officer of Royal & SunAlliance USA. He began his career with Royal Insurance in 1973 in the personal lines division and advanced in various positions until he was named chief operating officer in 1994.
Mr. Broderick is a graduate of LaSalle University in Philadelphia.
CIGNA PROPERTY & CASUALTY
The Philadelphia-based subsidiary of Cigna Corp. appointed Thomas A. McCarthy as senior vice president of its Cigna Risk Solutions division.
He succeeds Joe Braunstein, who was promoted to lead Cigna Group Insurance's disability business.
Mr. McCarthy has been with the company for 17 years, most recently as chief financial officer of Cigna IntegratedCare.
WILLIS CORROON GROUP
The insurance broker's Willis Corroon Corp. of New York subsidiary named J. Stanley Fink and John D. Sternberg, Jr. to the post of senior vice president.
Mr. Fink will focus on service and delivery capabilities to financial institutions. Mr. Sternberg has joined the broker's Management Liability section, specializing in risks associated with insurance companies and related financial organizations.
Mr. Fink was most recently managing director for J&H/Marsh & McLennan's FINPRO division. Mr. Sternberg moves to New York from Chicago, where he was vice president and regional practice leader for the former broker Alexander & Alexander.
Ricky Byrdsong was named vice president, community affairs, for the insurance holding company in Chicago.
Mr. Byrdsong, a 1978 graduate of Iowa State University, has 19 years experience coaching NCAA basketball, and has held head coaching positions at the University of Detroit and most recently Northwestern University.
LIBERTY FINANCIAL COS.
Jeremy C. Jaffe was named vice president of electronic commerce for the financial services holding company.
He joins Liberty Financial in Boston from its annuity unit, Keyport Life Insurance Co., where he served as assistant vice president, strategic marketing and was involved in developing Keyport's Web site and other electronic marketing initiatives.
Prior to joining Keyport, he was director of business development at the Boston-based Center for Strategy Research.

Robert Ingram has been appointed chief actuary. He is a partner with the firm's Actuarial & Insurance Consulting Group.
Mr. Ingram will have more than 170 actuaries under his direction.
He has been with the accounting firm for 16 years and has more than 30 years of experience in actuarial consulting and analysis.
