Seven government employees and businessmen were executed by hanging for accepting bribes and commissions from companies that sought contracts in Iraq, according to a presidential decree.
Among them was Oil Ministry Undersecretary Abdul-Munim Hassan Alwan, it said. The businessman accused of bribing him, Nassir Shaker Nimo, also was reported hanged.A contractor, two engineers, a company director and an industrialist were also executed. Mr. Alwan and the two engineers worked for the government.
A tribunal found the seven guilty of corruption and President Saddam Hussein upheld the sentences, said the decree, dated Aug. 31.
