UPS and FedEx Express stopped taking all shipments out of Yemen on Friday after a terror alert that turned up suspicious packages in the United Kingdom and Dubai.
The express carriers acted as the United Kingdom suspended all direct flight service between Yemen and the U.K. and authorities in the United States conducted special searches of all goods coming into the United States from the Arab country.
FedEx said in a statement that local authorities "in cooperation with the FBI ... have confiscated a suspicious package at the FedEx facility in Dubai. The shipment originated in Yeman and as an additional safety measure FedEx has embargoed all shipments originating from Yemen."
UPS late Friday said it also was "immediately suspending service out of Yemen until further notice."
