U.S. automotive imports from Japan plummeted after the March earthquake and tsunami, falling 36.5 percent year-over-year in April. Now recovering, July imports surged 38.4 percent sequentially and narrowed the gap to a 3.4 percent year-over-year loss. Year-to-date, automotive imports from Japan have declined 9.2 percent year-over-year.
