Virginia Port Launches Labor Web Site

The Virginia Port Authority and Virginia International Terminals have created a Web page providing operational information related to the possibility of an International Longshoremen’s Association work stoppage.

The page is accessed under the heading “East Coast Labor Action” at www.portofvirginia.com. It also is accessible on VIT’s home page, www.vit.org.

VPA spokesman Joe D. Harris said the page is designed to answer questions and provide up-to-date local information as the ILA contract expiration nears.

“If a labor action occurs, we’ll be adding information on a daily basis and throughout the day if need be,” Harris said. “We’ll also be using our social media component — Facebook and Twitter — to notify people that the page has been updated.”
