The South Carolina Ports Authority has hired John M. Wheeler to serve as vice president of carrier sales, effective Oct. 29.
Wheeler will report to Paul McClintock, senior vice president and chief commercial officer, and will lead ocean carrier sales efforts for the port system. He will be based at the SCPA headquarters in Charleston.
Wheeler has more than 38 years of experience in the shipping industry, specifically operations, sales and management. He was most recently senior director of trade development at the Georgia Ports Authority, where he oversaw all carrier sales and contract negotiation efforts, as well as the international sales team.
The port authority announced several other personnel moves: Jack Ellenberg is being promoted to senior vice president, economic development and projects; Art Pruett will take on the role of vice president, cargo sales; and Mike Stresemann is being promoted to vice president, crane and equipment maintenance.
