The Port of Virginia handled 182,318 20-foot-equivalent units in September, an 11 percent increase compared with September 2011 and the port’s eighth consecutive month of growth, the Virginia Port Authority reported today.
The port has collectively handled 1,546,087 TEUs in the year to date, up 8.3 percent from the 1,427,008 TEUs moved during the same period last year.
Total rail containers in September were 33,802, a 15.6 increase compared with last September. Year-to-date rail containers were 281,019, increasing 15.0 percent from last year’s 244,254 containers.
