Port of Mobile Handles Largest Ship in Its History

The largest ship in the Port of Mobile’s history called at its APM Terminals Mobile facility on Nov. 5, the Alabama State Port Authority announced.

The MSC Texas, a post-Panamax ship with a capacity of 8,400 20-foot-equivalent units, serves Mediterranean Shipping’s weekly direct call service between Mobile and ports in northern Europe, including Antwerp, Felixstowe, Bremerhaven and Le Havre.

Norton Lilly International served as the vessel’s agent.

The port has been handling and turning increasing numbers of post-Panamax vessels, thanks to infrastructure investments that allow the port to service vessels upward of 1,200 feet in length, said Jimmy Lyons, ASPA’s director and chief executive, in a written statement.
