North American west coast container ports experienced a slight increase in year-over-year traffic in the third quarter of 2013. Overall throughput to major west coast ports in the U.S., Mexico and Canada rose 1.7 percent from 6,176,870 20-foot-equivalent containers in third quarter 2012 to 6,283,238 TEUs in third quarter 2013.
